On January 2nd, 2024, a massive Russian missile attack struck Kyiv, damaging residential buildings in the Solominsky District. An elderly couple of pensioners had all the windows in their apartment shattered by the blast. The husband was injured by flying glass – cuts to his head, stomach, and arm, along with a concussion – and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. With winter temperatures and no intact windows, the situation was urgent.
| Aid Partner: | Local coordination in Kyiv |
| Funds: | EUR 1,565 |
| Region: | Kyiv, Solominsky District |
| Aid provided: | Full window replacement – measurement, production, and installation |
| Beneficiaries: | Elderly couple of pensioners whose apartment was damaged by missile attack |
SA2U stepped in to fund the full replacement of the destroyed windows, covering measurement, production, and installation costs. Thanks to our donor support and the coordination of a local contact in Kyiv, the new windows were ordered on January 9th and fully installed within three weeks.
For this elderly couple, the speed of the response was everything. With winter in full force and temperatures well below freezing, living without windows was not just uncomfortable – it was dangerous. The shattered glass had already sent one of them to the hospital, and every day without protection from the cold put them at further risk.
The couple now has safe, warm, and secure windows in their home again. While their neighborhood still bears the scars of the attack, they can at least face the rest of winter with dignity and warmth.
