In partnership with the Dobrobut Foundation, SA2U provided critical medical care to 16 individual patients – many of them children – who had been displaced by the war and were unable to access the specialized healthcare they desperately needed. Through this collaboration, families who had fled their homes found not just medical treatment, but hope for recovery and a healthier future.

When war forces families to flee their homes, the upheaval goes far beyond losing a roof over their heads. For parents of children with medical conditions, displacement means losing access to the doctors and specialists their children depend on. Many families arriving in Kyiv from conflict zones found themselves in an unfamiliar city, struggling to navigate a healthcare system while coping with the trauma of displacement.

The Dobrobut Medical Network – one of Ukraine’s most respected private healthcare providers – opened its doors to these families through its charitable foundation. With SA2U’s support, 16 patients received the specialized medical care they could not otherwise afford or access. Among them was young Danil Zaporozhets, whose mother Yulia had been unable to find medical specialists at their local centre after relocating. On the advice of a friend, she turned to the Dobrobut Medical Network, where Danil was examined by a neurologist, cardiologist, ENT specialist, and orthopedist. The ENT doctor performed a procedure to remove sulphur plugs that had not even been suspected before the examination, and also prescribed preventive measures including special exercises and dietary recommendations to improve Danil’s condition.

Stories like Danil’s were repeated across all 16 cases – children and adults who had been living with undiagnosed or untreated conditions simply because war had torn them away from their medical support networks. The Dobrobut Foundation’s team of project leaders – Eduard Lykholat, Roksolana Myshkovska, and Hanna Sharova – coordinated consultations with specialized doctors for each patient, ensuring that every individual received personalized, comprehensive care.

For many of these families, this was the first proper medical attention they had received since fleeing their homes. The project did not just treat immediate conditions – it gave families a pathway forward, with follow-up plans, preventive measures, and the reassurance that their children’s health was in capable hands.
